“You met me in October when I had a bruise on my right wrist and forearm that appeared for no reason. You looked at this and ran some tests. “301-424=6231 and met with Dr. Syed. S. Mahmood. I met with Dr. Mahmood the first time on December 13, 2024. Dr. Mahmood has since run many tests and is putting together a treatment plan for care. Bottom line I have Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM), this is secondary to myeloma which then resulted in my developing AL Amyloidosis. The AL Amyloidosis has caused heart, liver, bladder problems and possibly liver problems. The myeloma is a rare cancer and 10-15% of the people develop the Amyloidosis and of those most are male.
“Unfortunately, this illness mimics so many others it takes years to get diagnosed. Unfortunately, this is not a curable illness but hopefully I will go into remission in the next 2=6 months and have a fairly normal length of life. Tomorrow February 3, 2025, I have an appointment at the Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center in Baltimore. The plan is they will work with Dr. Mahmood to finalize a treatment plan that I will start later this week or next week.”

“I am writing to thank you for referring me to Dr. Sunjay Berdia for a second opinion.
“This past May, I came to you with a broken right pinky finger. It was a pile-on fracture that shattered the PIP joint. You told me that it was a severe and complicated fracture, and you said that I would probably have to live with it and/or have the joint fused.
“Fortunately, you referred me to Dr. Berdia. He agreed that it was a nasty break. But he was willing to attempt to fix it – by either reconstructing the joint with my own bone or doing a joint replacement. We opted to try the first option, with the joint replacement as a fallback Plan B if the attempt at joint reconstruction failed.
“I am happy to tell you that the joint reconstruction went very well. He did the surgery on May 31, and today I was discharged. As you will see from the enclosed Hand Therapy Progress Summary, I have regained considerable range of motion and my hand strength is returning. Dr. Berdia, in his soft-spoken, low-key manner, called it “a home run!” I am very pleased with the result.
